Zusätzlich zu seiner Lobbyarbeit zu Umweltproblemen, die indigene Völker weltweit betreffen; IEN setzt sich auch für die Förderung von sozialer Gerechtigkeit und Menschenrechten ein. Die Organisation war an Kampagnen gegen Polizeibrutalität, Masseneinkerkerungen und andere Formen systemischer Unterdrückung beteiligt, die indigene Gemeinschaften unverhältnismäßig stark treffen.
