Mein Onkel Mike ist letzte Nacht friedlich in Gegenwart seiner Lieblingsbetreuer gestorben. Im Namen von Michael Flahertys Familie wollte ich mich bedanken. Ich bin seine Nichte, meine Mutter Paula war Mikes jüngste Schwester. Aber ich weiß, dass Sie alle meine Tante Linda und den größten Teil unserer anderen Familie kennen, die Besucher für Mike waren. Wir sind wirklich dankbar für die Qualität der Fürsorge und des Mitgefühls, die ihr meinem Onkel in den Jahren gezeigt habt, als er dort war. Wir kannten die Natur seines Zustands, aber ihr habt nie in eurer Sorge um ihn ins Stocken geraten ... mein Herz ist voller Dankbarkeit, wenn ich daran denke, wie erstaunlich ihr alle seid. Meine Familie und ich leben in Virginia, weil mein Mann und ich beide in der US Navy waren und wir nicht in der Lage waren, mit Michael dort zu sein, wie wir es wollten. Wir wussten immer, dass er bei Ihnen in guten Händen war und wir alle wussten, wie engagiert das Personal den Veteranen und ihren Familien ist. Mein Bruder war vor seinem Tod in der Langzeitpflegeeinrichtung ansässig. Er lebte zuvor in betreutem Wohnen und in einem Pflegeheim. Das Soldatenheim war bei weitem der beste Ort für ihn. Ich kann dem Personal nicht genug für die Fürsorge und den Respekt danken, die sie meinem Bruder entgegengebracht haben. Er liebte es dort zu leben und wir wussten, dass er von einigen der besten Krankenschwestern betreut wurde, die ich je getroffen habe. Er liebte das Essen und es ist einer der saubersten Orte, an denen er gelebt hat. Alle Mitarbeiter, von den Krankenschwestern über die Klempner bis hin zu den Helfern und Therapeuten, sind so nett und freundlich. Wenn Sie ein Veteran sind oder einen Verwandten haben, der ein Veteran ist und Pflege benötigt, zögern Sie nicht, auf die Warteliste gesetzt zu werden. Machen Sie eine Tour durch den Ort und treffen Sie die Leute, die dort arbeiten. Sie werden nicht enttäuscht sein.

Meine Erfahrung endete damit, dass ich gegen die Regeln verstieß. Aber wenn Sie ein Veteran sind und ein Dach über dem Kopf brauchen und von der Straße weg und von vorne beginnen möchten, ist das Dynamit. Es ist wie ein Zuhause. Die Männer und Frauen, die ihr Leben leben, wollen das Gleiche. Plus Filme im Theater.

Das Wort Liebe ist übertrieben. Auf meiner Dienstreise (Job) hatte ich das Vergnügen, die Chelsea-Soldaten zu Hause und draußen zu besuchen, die gut organisiert waren, und die Veteranen, die mir halfen, waren sehr respektvoll und hilfsbereit.
